The great thing about holidaying in Europe is the vast selection of destinations on offer. Sun, ski, nature and history abound the continent. However, there are some destinations that are simply superior, here we look at the crème de la crème of European holiday destinations. The South of France has long been considered a movie star destination with resorts such as St. Tropez and Nice upon its shores. But the South of France has even more to offer than that. Roman ruins, postcard perfect French villages and craggy coastline all await a visitor to the South of France. With plenty to do apart from posing on a warm beach, activities include vineyard touring and skiing. The weather in the South of France also makes it a great camping and caravanning destination. Europe is full of exceptional cities including London, Prague, Paris, Barcelona and many more. But in terms of offering a visitor the best of everything that a European city can, it has to be Rome. Rome is literally full to the brim with history and houses an infinite amount of Roman ruins including the coliseum and the pantheon. It is also home to the famous Vatican City, the world's smallest country. Wandering around Rome is a treat in itself with its Renaissance and Baroque architecture complete with fabulous piazzas and fountains. The best thing about Rome of course is the food; pasta, pizza ice cream and coffee, all at their very best. Island hopping in the Greek Islands is not just for gap year students. With efficient and excellent ferry services between many of the islands, it's a holiday that can be enjoyed by individuals, couples and families alike. History buffs can head to Crete to enjoy the famous Palace of Knossos and hedonists can venture to Mykonos for great beaches and crazy parties. Many people forget that the best holiday is on their doorstep. Britain is a place full of history and grand heritage. Hundreds of castles and stately homes abound the green and pleasant lands of the UK. Beautiful small villages are found all over the country where cream teas and English ale can be enjoyed at leisure. Particular hotspots include the Scottish Highlands, the Lake District, the Cotswolds and the Norfolk Broads. Spain has long been one of the most visited holiday destinations in Europe and if its sun you want, then the Canary Islands are a great place to visit. Offering year round sunshine and great visitor attractions, the island of Tenerife has made itself a firm favourite with holidaymakers for decades. As an island geared up for tourism there is a great selection of Playa de las Americas hotels and Los Cristianos hotels. Tenerife is full of beautiful beaches, great activities and an exciting nightlife. |
