Whether you are a first time traveller, or you have already caught the travel bug, one of the most stressful parts of your holiday can be the travel. Running late to the train station, perhaps the train itself is running late, causing you to be late to check in for your flight. Nightmare scenarios can happen to the best of us at the worst of times. Here are some tips to ensure stress-free travel, even for nervous travellers.

First, make sure that you know your itinerary and have planned each step of your journey. There is nothing worse than turning up for the Heathrow Express to find its a replacement bus service during that week, which would make you late for check in.

Second, try to leave time between parts of your journey, to allow for lateness of public transport or unforeseen circumstances. You may have to stop to have a cup of coffee, or even run into trouble having had a service break down whilst you are travelling on it.

Third, try to eat before setting off. Make sure that you are not travelling on an empty stomach. Ensure you have plenty of drink available to you and that you are able to make a pit-stop to the lavatory should one be required. This is particularly important if travelling with children.

Fourth, if you are travelling with children, ensure that they have been fitted with a name of a contact and number, just in case they get lost. I know myself, having been lost in Euston station when I was little, that small pieces of information on a label attached to an arm can help avoid a lot of stress.

Finally, if you are a nervous flyer, try to take some chamomile tea to calm your nerves. Do not touch alcohol because you can be thrown off a flight or even refused boarding, should you be adjudged to have drunk too much. Take some relaxing music with you to help you and perhaps a Sudoku to keep your mind off going in the air.

Lastly, think about taking the stress out of a journey abroad by driving your car to the airport instead of relying on public transport. UK airport parking is available at competitive prices in all UK airports. Last, but not least, enjoy your trip - the last thing you want is for your holiday to be spoilt by a stressful occasion in travelling to your destination.
